Autralian Open 2026
Circular Blue is teaming up with Yonex and Tennis Australia at the Australian Open (AO) for the third year running to recover discarded tennis strings and repurpose them into consumer products such as sunglasses.
Each year at the AO, Yonex’s Stringing Team restrings around 7,000 racquets, removing 83,300 metres of racquet string which would historically be sent to landfill.
Since January 2024, in partnership with Circular Blue and Tangaroa Blue Foundation, the racquet string was collected and processed on-site at Rod Laver Arena into small pieces called feedstock using a multi-purpose plastic waste shredder. The feedstock is then used to create a range of consumer products.
For the first time this year we have also partnered with Circular Seed to deliver decentralised processing for strings, which reduces transport costs and is more energy efficient.
From racket string waste disposal to onsite recovery, the partnership is a clear circular economy success story.
